OUR EXTENSION AND REFURBISHMENT OF BUCKLERS VIEW FOR SOUTHERN HOUSING GROUP, A SMALL INDEPENDENT LIVING DEVELOPMENT ON THE ISLE OF WIGHT, WILL PROVIDE 12 ADDITIONAL NEW HOMES AS WELL AS UPDATED ENTRANCE AREA, STAFF FACILITIES, COMMUNAL AREAS AND LANDSCAPING.
Developed in close consultation with residents, the project focuses on what matters most to the residents to enhace the development and the community.
Maximising light throughout was a key focus, with a previously underused communal spaces substituted with an open and attractive lounge, an enlarged kitchen and veranda. A glazed roof invites further light into the reception area and throughout the building.
Our work will also provide a general update to existing facilities, providing robust and secure access and shared facilities.
Access to the gardens will be improved and high quality landscaping provide a pleasant environment that encourages time spent outdoors. Mature trees are retained and met with additional trees and other planting, incorporated to increase biodiversity, while large new planters are easily accessible to enable residents to grow flowers and vegetables.
The proposed new building varies in height between two and three storeys, in keeping with the surrounding streetscape, and includes a reconfiguration of the existing entrance which is currently not very inviting or legible from the street frontage. The development will provide much needed additional sheltered housing for the Island’s ageing population and contribute to an overall improvement to their quality of life.
