BOYD ORR COMPUTING SUITE


  • AN INTERIOR REFURBISHMENT OF AN EXISTING COMPUTING SCIENCE SUITE TO UPGRADE THE INTERIOR WITH AN OPEN PLAN TEACHING ROOM TO ACCOMMODATE 72 COMPUTING UNDERGRADUATES.

  • Computing Science required a full refurbishment of their computing suite, involving a full strip out of all services and floor and ceiling finishes. We developed a reconfigured layout with a central wave desk and corresponding wave of feature ceiling panels overhead, performing the dual function of carrying feature lighting and absorbing sound. This maximises the number of students but in a layout that is neither uniform nor dull. The interior design is brightly coloured and contemporary, selected from the framework finishes range. We developed a feature wall design with the graphics department of the digital wall paper supplier to feature a line mural of the city of Glasgow. This enhances the already stunning views of the city from the 6th floor windows.

  • The internal services had to be entirely stripped out and replaced with additional cooling, power and data and integrated AV; we worked with the University AV team to integrate the AV into the proposals.

    The works were undertaken in a live building and forward planning was required to coordinate service shut-downs, service tie ins and to ensure access was safely maintained to the existing fire exit and robot room. The project was delivered without incident, on programme and to budget and the end users were very happy with the completed teaching space. The new space is a fresh and bright transformation.
